Academic Background and Interests

My interest in literature began when I was in high school, and the more I studied the different types of literature and periods of literature, the more intrigued I became with the connections between the literature and what influenced it in the form of social and political issues or historical events of the period. Consequently, my focus of study was on the American and English literature of the nineteenth and early twentieth century when the "world was on fire" with social and political change.

Personal Interests and Hobbies

When I am not working, I like to spend my free time with my two dogs (Shiloh Shepherds) walking or going out on hikes. In the summer, I enjoy gardening and landscaping. However, once the weather gets cold, I like to travel to tropical islands and have visited most of the sovereign states and territories in the Caribbean. Aruba and Barbados are two of my favorite islands to visit.

Keys to Success

"Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen." -Michael Jordan

Hard work and determination are two of the most important qualities of being successful not only as a student but in life in general. Waiting for or wishing things to improve or just happen are not enough. Never be outworked and if you are unhappy with the results, regardless if that is with academics or in your personal or professional life, do something about it. Seek out assistance or advice and take the necessary steps to change the path you are on. Make it happen!
